Biography
1974 Movie
Billy’s eye close up.
There is almost no information given about the killer in the original movie. All that is known is that a person climbs into a sorority house, and starts making obscene and sexual phone calls to the girls downstairs.
From the phone calls, the audience discovers that the man’s name is Billy, and he obviously is mentally unstable. Billy routinely repeats phrases over the phone that give hints to his identity. It is assumed that he sexually abused his younger sister Agnes. And his parents abused him regularly.
Billy goes on a killing spree killing the girls in a delusional rampage. He attempts to kill a girl named Jess, but she manages to lock herself in the cellar. Her boyfriend Peter gains access to the cellar and believing he is the killer making the phone calls, ends up bludgeoning him to death in «self-defense» and she is later discovered by the police, making them believe Peter must have been the killer all along.
The police leave Jess to sleep and leave, while one cop waits outside for forensics to arrive. However, the camera pans into the attic where the two bodies of Billy’s victims are still there, and he can be heard saying «Agnes, it’s me Billy»; the telephone then rings. The ultimate fate of Jess is left ambiguous to the audience.
2006 Remake
Billy from the 2006 remake
Much more information is giving about Billy’s backstory in the remake. It’s revealed that he has a rare liver disease that gives him jaundice. His mother and father hate each other, but his father cares about his son while his mother hates Billy for reminding her of her husband.
One Christmas, Billy’s mother and her boyfriend murder Billy’s father. They then bury the body under the house and lock Billy in the attic.
Billy never leaves the attic and makes it his home. When Billy was twelve, his mother raped him, and became pregnant with his half-sister/daughter. She names her Agnes.
Agnes is treated like a princess and given the life that Billy never had. When Billy reaches adulthood, he goes on a killing spree one Christmas. He rips out Agnes’s eye and eats it. Then he kills his step-father and mother.
When the police arrive, they find him eating his mother. He is declared insane and sent to an asylum.
During the events of the film, Billy’s old home is turned into a sorority house. Billy escapes from the asylum and together with Agnes, kill many of the sorority girls in his former home. At the end of the film, Agnes is killed by Kelli, after a brief chase with Kelli, Billy and Kelli end up in the stairway of the hospital, Billy attempts to attack her, but Kelli grabs him and tells him, «Merry Christmas, mother-fucker», she then ends up throwing Billy off the stairway in which Billy falls and gets impaled on a Christmas tree, finally killing him and ending his killing spree.

Biography [ ]
Tortured Childhood [ ]
Whether Billy knew about the affair is unknown. Then on Christmas in 1975, when Billy was five years old, Mrs. Lenz and her lover murdered her husband with a claw hammer, which Billy witnessed while hiding underneath the bed. His mother soon noticed him hiding and locked him in the house’s upstairs attic so that he would never tell anyone about the murder.
In 1982, Mrs. Lenz discovered that she was unable to conceive a child with her lover-turned-husband due to his impotency. Determined on conceiving a child, she entered the attic and raped Billy. Even though Billy was 12 years old at the time, Mrs. Lenz becomes pregnant with Billy’s child and that same year she gave birth to a girl who she named Agnes, who, despite being inbred, was treated like a little queen by Billy’s mother and her lover, the love that Billy was denied by his mother. Mrs. Lenz would never tell her new husband about the «affair», making him believe that he was the child’s father.
Murdering His Mother [ ]
Billy on the night he killed his mother and her lover.
Nine years later, on Christmas Day in 1991, all the years of pent-up rage from his abuse and neglect finally caused Billy to snap. Escaping from the confines of the dark attic, Billy viciously attacked Agnes while she was in the kitchen, covering her head with plastic as he proceeded to disfigure her face with a knife. Hearing her screams, Billy’s mother and stepfather rushed into the kitchen in time to witness the evil Billy removing one of Agnes’ eyes and devouring it.
Noticing his mother, Billy began taunting her by saying that Agnes was «his family now». His step-father then charged at him but was quickly killed when Billy impaled his head with a sharpened Christmas decoration. Billy then grabbed his mother, the source of all his years of suffering and unhappiness, wrapped Christmas lights around her neck and dragged her across the blood-soaked floor. Grabbing a rolling pin, Billy then proceeded to viciously beat her to death with it. The source of his fury now dead, he then proceeded to tear off chunks of his mother’s flesh with a cookie cutter, placing the pieces in the oven.
A little while later, the police broke into the house, revealing the carnage that Billy had caused. They found Agnes crying in pain in a pool of her own blood, surrounded by the mutilated corpses of her mother and «father», and nearby Billy sat cheerfully eating the freshly-baked «cookies» made from his mother’s flesh.
Incarceration [ ]
Arrested for his crimes, while Agnes was sent to an orphans’ asylum, Billy was later found by the courts to be criminally insane and was sent to a psychiatric facility where he remained for the next 15 years. During his stay there, Billy underwent thirteen failed escape attempts from the psychiatric facility, all of which took place on Christmas Eve. Sometime during this span, the Lenz home was sold and turned into a sorority house. The new inhabitants of the Lenz family house knew about the Lenz family and the murders committed by Billy and for reasons unknown they began regularly sending him presents each Christmas.
Escape and Killing spree [ ]
On December 24, 2006, approximately fifteen years after murdering his mother and stepfather, Billy finally managed to escape the facility, killing one of the security guards with a candy cane which he had sharpened into a shiv. As he made his escape Billy came across a man dressed as Santa who regularly made visits to the facility in order to cheer up the places residents, he slaughtered the man and stole his clothes, walking out of the facility undetected.
After his escape, Billy began his trek back home. Managing to get to a phone, he called his old home, rambling and harassing the house’s new residents until one of the sorority girls, Leigh Colvin taunted him. Enraged, Billy threatened to kill them all before hanging up. Arriving at his childhood home he proceeded to murder two of the house’s inhabitants, Heather Fitzgerald and Barbara MacHenry. Entering the house, Billy made his way to the attic, the place he was imprisoned for most of his childhood.
Emerging in front of the houses sole survivors Kelli and Leigh, reuniting with Agnes, who is revealed to be just as murderous and insane as her father as well as the one responsible for the murders of most of the house’s inhabitants. Both Agnes and Billy then converge on the two survivors, with the two killers managing to knock both themselves and Kelli into the empty space between the walls of the house. Before they are able to finish her off, Kelli is saved by Leigh, and together they set the house on fire, leaving both Agnes and Billy to burn to death in the blazing inferno.
Death [ ]
Billy and Agnes manage to escape the burning house, with Billy left seriously burnt from the fire. Together, the two make their way to the hospital, where Kelli and Leigh were staying. Entering the hospital, Billy slaughtered the morgue attendant, leaving Agnes to kill the two survivors. After murdering Leigh, Agnes attempted to do the same to Kelli but was subsequently electrocuted by Kelli with a defibrillator, killing her.
Entering the room shortly after this, Billy, enraged by the death of his daughter, pursued Kelly through the hospital. Seemingly cornering her at the stairwell, the two engage in a brief fight, with Kelli managing to knock Billy off the railing. Plummeting to the ground below, Billy is impaled on top of a Christmas tree used to decorate the facility, finally putting an end to his rampage.
Legacy [ ]
His bloody rampage which started on December 25, 1991, and ended with his death on December 24, 2006, at the age of 36 years old, during his killing spree Billy Lenz brutally murdered seven individuals and horrifically disfigured his daughter/sister Agnes on Christmas in 1991, this incident left Agnes psychologically imbalanced and disturbed so much that this would also lead to her becoming a serial killer like her father, which ended in her death on December 24th in 2006.
Personality [ ]
From an early age, Billy Lenz was subject to severe physical and psychological abuse at the hands of his mother, who hated him due to his appearance. This abuse would last into Billy’s early adulthood, and as a result, gave him a deep-seated fury towards his mother and humanity. The only positive influence on the young Billy was his father, who treated him with the kindness and love he would never receive from his mother. After witnessing his mother and her lover murder father. The resulting imprisonment, and the later rape he suffered at the hands of his mother deeply shell shocked Billy.
Most of the horrific events in Billy’s childhood occurred during the Christmas season and, as a result, he became obsessed with the holiday itself, which he equated to all the suffering he endured. This is best shown during the phone call sequence where he reveals a very twisted view on the holiday itself.
Billy also seems to have a complicated relationship with his sister/daughter Agnes, though he does display something resembling jealousy at the love and attention she was given as a child by his mother, which resulted in his disfiguring her to make her look as ugly as what their mother thought of him as. However, after reuniting with her as an adult, they both display mutual respect for each other to the extent where Billy is visibly upset when she is killed.
Billy (also known as Billy Lenz in the remake) is the main villain of the 1974 slasher film Black Christmas, as well as its remake (in which he earned his second name).

Billy, as he is seen in Black Christmas (1974)
Little is known about the killer, or even if his name is really Billy, what is known is that he is a mentally disturbed and sexually perverted man who regularly makes obscene phone calls to a local sorority house. Due to the regularity of the phone calls, the inhabitants have given him the nickname «The Moaner».
During one such phone call, Billy is insulted by Barbara «Barb» Coard, one of the sorority sisters, and an enraged Billy threatens to kill them. Billy then goes on a killing spree, murdering most of the house’s inhabitants. He subsequently attempts to murder sole survivor Jess Bradford, but she manages to elude him. Billy seemingly flees the scene, hiding in the attic as Jess’ boyfriend Peter Smythe arrives at the scene. Mistaking Peter for the killer, Jess bludgeons him to death with a fireplace poker. Later, the police clean up the scene and put the traumatized Jess to bed, stationing a police officer outside as a precaution before leaving. Billy begins conversing to the corpses of Clare and Mrs. MacHenry, whom the police have yet to find in the attic. After this, Billy emerges from the attic as Jess sleeps in a nearby room. A phone suddenly begins to ring, presumably from Billy, implying that he has murdered Jess.
