The word Christmas comes from «Christes masse”, an early English phrase that means «Mass of Christ».
There are a lot of different traditions on how to celebrate Christmas. People in the United Kingdom decorate their homes with wreaths, ornaments and Christmas trees. City streets are filled with coloured lights; the sound of bells and tuneful Christmas carols can be heard everywhere.
Children usually write letters to Santa Claus and tell him what kind of gifts they would like to get. A lot of malls hire people to wear a Santa costume and listen to children’s requests. Also, children believe that he arrives on Christmas Eve in a sleigh pulled by a reindeer and brings presents. Some kids hang up stockings for Santa to fill them with candies, fruit and other small gifts.
Adults like to celebrate this holiday as well. Many companies throw corporate parties and give presents to their employees.
My family attends church services on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. We listen to readings from Bible. In the evening we sit down to festive table, light the candles and enjoy the delicious supper. My favourite dishes are a fruit salad and a roast goose.
I like this feast very much because it inspires people with belief in the realness of miracles. I suppose we will celebrate this feast for centuries in future.

Queen Elizabeth is «totally committed» to hosting a family Christmas.
The 95-year-old monarch was briefly hospitalised for tests earlier this month and has cancelled all in-person engagements for the next two weeks but she is determined to rest up and recover so she can see her loved ones at their traditional festive celebrations.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “This year, more than ever, it is incredibly important to Her Majesty to be surrounded by her loved ones.
“The queen is totally committed to hosting everyone as she hopes to make it back to full health in the coming weeks.
“Her Majesty is resting under doctors’ orders with the intention of being able to fully enjoy the company of her extended family over the holiday period.
“After being forced to cancel a host of engagements, the family get-together will be the perfect tonic.”
Buckingham Palace recently announced that the Queen would not undertake official visits for two weeks, after receiving advice from her doctors.
The monarch will continue with some light, desk-based duties over the time period. However, she’s determined to attend Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in London on November 14.
Earlier this week, an insider revealed that the royal family have been rallying around the queen amid her health concerns.
A source shared: «[Catherine] sent the queen a huge bouquet of flowers from her family. George, Charlotte and Louis made ‘get well soon’ cards [after she spent a night in hospital].»
The queen and the duchess have been «talking more than ever since [the] health scare».
And although the monarch returned to Windsor Castle after undergoing preliminary checks, the royals have been urging her to «take it easy».
The insider added: «The queen says she’s fine and doing well, but she’s said that before, so naturally [the family is] concerned. They’d been urging her to take it easy for months.»

On the thirtieth of Desember we decorate a Christmas tree and our house. Mum hangs a stocking for Santa Claus near the Christmas tree.
We make presents for our friends. Mum will cook a Christmas pie and make salads. My mum, dad and I organize competitions and games.
We write a letter for Santa Claus and wish him good luck too! Santa Claus brings us presents at twelve o`clock under the Christmas tree. He eats biscuits and drinks milk with us.
