My Future Profession as a Lawyer

Моя будущая профессия – юрист

All the people interact with the law during their life. At first, every key event in one’s destiny must be fixed in legal documents: birth certificate confirms the childbirth, marriage certificate – the family creation, employment record shows the profession and work experience… Besides, a large purchase (for example, of a house or a car) demands a special contract or a license.

Все люди на протяжении своей жизни взаимодействуют с законом. Sometimes, only a specialist of jurisprudence can resolve problems tied with legal documents. A tourist goes to a legal counsel if there is something wrong with his insurance policy; a businessman asks for a legal advice to make a trade agreement more efficient; a person wanting to compose a will must use a notary’s services. Therefore, people need lawyers constantly, in their everyday life.

However, I study at the faculty of law to become an attorney and to work in court. Law is significant not only as a system of documents but also as a regulator of social life preserving ethical norms. Local, state and international laws exist to establish and protect human rights, especially if a person suffers from an offense or a crime. In this situation, the court determines a right and a guilty and appoint punishment in accordance with the guilt – a fine, administrative arrest, or even imprisonment.

Однако я учусь на юридическом факультете, чтобы стать адвокатом и работать в суде. Закон важен не только как система документов, но и как регулятор общественной жизни, сохраняющий этические нормы. My dream is to protect human rights in the criminal law: in theft, fraud, murder trials. An attorney should carefully examine the case, the testimony of witnesses and the accused’s personality to achieve justice and avoid a judicial error. Of course, this work is extremely serious and responsible, but important like nothing else.

Моя мечта – защищать права человека в уголовном праве: в процессах о краже, мошенничестве, убийстве. Адвокат должен тщательно изучить дело, показания свидетелей и личность обвиняемого, чтобы добиться справедливости и избежать судебной ошибки. Конечно, эта работа чрезвычайно серьёзна и ответственна, но важна, как ничто другое.

Lawyers are very important in our society. They help people too assert their rights. And that is exactly what I want to do in future.

It is not easy to be a lawyer. This job is very demanding. It is necessary to keep in mind a lot of information, prepare documents thoroughly and it might be stressful to work in a court.

Still this profession attracts me. I don’t mind formalities or protocols, I like an order. I am not a shy person, I can make a speech in front of the audience.

Lawyers work not only in law firms and prosecutor’s office. They are also in demand in commercial companies and real estate agencies. They draw up contracts, check correctness of transactions, help to resolve disputed issues.

I like films and books about lawyers, like “The Firm” by John Grisham. Such stories make me think about the ethical aspect of the profession. A lawyer has to defend his client’s interests whatever they are. Sometimes a lawyer may feel that he is on the wrong side, but can’t drop the case. I think a lot about it.

I hope I will be able to find a job, where I will really help people and serve justice.

Быть юристом нелегко. Эта работа требует большой отдачи. Необходимо помнить большой объем информации, тщательно готовить документы, и работа в суде очень напряженная.

И все же эта профессия меня привлекает. Я не против формальностей и протоколов, я люблю порядок. Я не застенчивый человек, я могу выступать перед аудиторией.

Юристы работают не только в юридических фирмах и прокуратуре. Они также востребованы в коммерческих компаниях и агентствах недвижимости. Они составляют договоры, проверяют чистоту сделок, помогают решать спорные вопросы.

Мне нравятся фильмы и книги об адвокатах, такие как “Фирма” Джона Гришэма. Такие истории заставляют задуматься об этическом аспекте профессии. I study at Mykolo Romerio university. This is my first year here. I have always wanted to enter this university,because it is really good and keeps high standards and quality of teaching. Futhermore, the university is very modern and exclusive. I am very proud of being a student of this university.

I have chosen studies of law and penitentiary work. That means I want to be a lawyer or to work some kind of juridical work. I think law is interesting and attractive subject to study. Besides, it is very useful to gain knowledge about law nowadays,because there are so much unfairness and cruelty in our society. There is lack of people who fight against these negative phenomena. So I am going to do that and to try to make our future life better and easier.
I have decided to connect my future with law, so I hope that lawyer’s profession will always be very popular, needful and promising. I will try to do my best in studying law, to take everything that the university can suggest to it’s students in order to make my studies qualitative and meaningful and to become a professional lawyer. Wish me good luck!

But I’m still hesitating whether it is good to choose a career while I’m at school. On one hand it gives me an opportunity to find the necessary course of study and pay more attention to the subjects which will be of great value for me in future. More than that I can attend optional courses in order to get profound knowledge in sciences and humanities. At school I have wonderful possibilities to develop the personal qualities such as understanding, the ability to listen to, to help people and persistence in achieving the aim. I’m sure such qualities will help me to succeed me as a lawyer.

On the other hand choosing a career at school may force me to a career path before I realize my real interests and abilities. As for my interests they change every year but I hope my desire to become a lawyer will not change in future.

As for me choosing a career isn’t only a mater of future prestige and wealth. In my opinion job must be interesting and socially important. The profession of lawyer gives me plenty of opportunities to help people in trouble. When I have been choosing a career I consulted nobody, but as for my parents they appreciate my wish to become a lawyer. I hope their support and encouragement will help me to make the final decision.

I understand, my wish isn’t enough to become a good lawyer. I must be well educated and broad-minded. And English language will be of great importance for me in it. With the help of English language I can get acquainted with the works of other foreign writers and their works on philosophy and logic. Besides it gives me a unique chance to communicate with my future foreign colleagues and probably exchange experience.

So I think that it is very important for me to think about the future even now because according to a famous saying “If you don’t think about you future you can’t have one”

What I would like to become? This question pasels me greatly. Every job has its elements of difficulties and interest. I think that nearly all the professions are very important in life. But to choose the right occupation is very difficult, because we must take in to consideration many factors. We must consider our personal taste and our kind of mind. At the same time we must satisfy the requirements of our society and peoples needs in one profession or another.
The end of school is the beginning of an independent life, the beginning of a more serious examination. In order to pass that very serious exam we must choose the road in life which will help us best to live and work. Each boy and girl has every opportunity to develop mind and use knowledge and education received at school. Some may prefer to work in factories or works, others want to go into construction: to take part in building power stations and new towns. Many opportunities to work and to satisfy at the same time the requirements of the society and your own personal interest are offered in the sfere of the services transport, communications and many others.
I have a specially liking for to became a programmist. I like this profession because it very interest.

Many years ago I made my choice of future work, I decided to be a lawyer. Since that time I’ve never regretted it. From my childhood I loved to discuss different matters and argue about them. I watched lots of movies about courts and investigations, I read books about juridical work. And I know that this profession will always be very needful and important. So it was absolutely a conscious choice.

My time in University was very interesting, we had many attractive subjects to study. I tried to do my best to get everything that the University can suggest to me, I had a goal to make my studies qualitative and meaningful.

Last 10 years I’ve been working as a criminal defense lawyer. Criminal lawyers have got more duties than just defending the case of their clients. Of course, my main duty is to defend my client in a court within the bounds of the law. I should do that vigorously, aggressively so all defense lawyers are perfect orators. I must defend my client in any cases even if the whole world is against us.

Our job is very stressful, but never boring — the stress of being responsible for someone else’s freedom especially when you know that the defendant is innocent. Every step I make, every word I say has a real influence for the future of my client. It is so difficult to describe the feeling of satisfaction after the making a positive defense.

Most of my clients are the powerless, the poor, the disadvantaged and the dispossessed people. I don’t make any difference in skin color, gender or social status of my clients. All people deserv the defense.

Today a good criminal defense lawyer is of a great demand, so I am proud to be one of them!

About My Career (Legal Career)

I originally became interested in the law during my 9th form when I realised that my skills as a writer, speaker, and leader — as well as my powers of logic — would probably serve me well in a legal career. That is why I entered an optional class where I could have lessons on law twice a week.

All that I have done and experienced in my studying of the basic aspects of the law has further stimulated and reinforced my interest in the law, especially international obligations and public law, and my determination to pursue a legal career.

Studying to be a lawyer represents the fulfilment of one of my longest held dreams.

Whatever I could do as a lawyer to help people who are victimised by unscrupulous businessmen, as well as their own ignorance of the law, would give me a great satisfaction.

The duty of the lawyer is not only to punish people for various crimes: from espionage to serial murder and terrorism, but they must do their best to prevent crimes, to fight against evil in our society.

They should help those people, who committed an error (broke the law) to find the right road in their life. The lawyers protect the rights and legal interests of citizens, institutions and organisations. I want to help people, businesses to solve their problems, I want to help everybody to know the rules that we all have to get along.

I think that the profession of a lawyer is one of the most important in the law-governed state, which we are creating now.

О моей карьере (карьера юриста)

Сначала я заинтересовался юриспруденцией в 9-ом классе, когда я понял, что мои навыки как писателя, оратора, и лидера — а также владение логикой — вероятно, пригодятся мне в юридической карьере. Именно поэтому я стал ходить на факультативные занятия по праву два раза в неделю.

Все мои наработки и приобретение опыта в изучении базисных аспектов юриспруденции далее стимулировали и укрепили мой интерес к правоведению, особенно международные обязательства и общественное право, и мое намерение получить профессию юриста.

Учеба на юриста — это выполнение одного из моих самых давних замыслов.

Чтобы я ни сделал как юрист, чтобы помочь людям, которые стали жертвой неразборчивых в средствах бизнесменов, также как и своего собственного незнания закона, все это доставит мне большое удовлетворение.

Долг юристов — не только наказывать людей за различные преступления: от шпионажа до серийного убийства и терроризма, но и стараться предотвращать преступления, бороться против зла в нашем обществе.
